Summer Update!

Picture
Dear Parents and Students,

Summer is here! I wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on with Biology With Berta until the fall.

I have already spoken with some of you one-on-one about the upcoming schedule and look forward to working with everyone more as summer and fall come fully around!

I will be working several day camps at Hidden Hills Ranch, which will affect my availability during the summer weeks. (There's still time to sign up for some of those camps if you visit their website now!)

So I have added a new feature to the website at www.biologywithberta.com, that allows you to see my availability and to schedule a class with me. Using the new Calendly feature on my website you will be able to request a time slot that I have open, cancel a meeting, or even ask to schedule a 30 minute call.
This will be a great new tool for both you and I, because you will be able to schedule week by week letting me know how many meetings you would like and what weeks you are unavailable (hopefully because of a fun vacation.)

I also know that some of you will be taking the summer off from lessons and schooling, I mean it is summer right?! This will also be available in the fall and will make it easier to jump right back into tutoring, lessons, or even a hike!

With all this said, my email and phone are always listed if you need to speak with me as well. Shoot me a text! It's honestly the fastest way to hear back from me.
I hope as we all start to get into the warmer months, everyone is taking time to get out in nature even for a few minutes and learn more about the world around us!
Happy Summer All!

Whats up with this Biology With Berta page anyways?

October 8st, 2020
Okay, So you have seen this page pop up “Biology With Berta,” if you are here during the early stages you probably are from my friends and family list of facebook friends. Which means you already know I am pretty much obsessed with wildlife and nature and telling people about it. So what am I doing with this Facebook page? Good question, I am figuring that out as well. Maybe we can figure it out together as I type this (my first ever blog post!).
Let’s go back to earlier this year before pretty much everyone's life turned inside out. My husband and I had been talking about moving back to the Monterey Bay area. Honestly, we loved living in Chico, Ca but for Matt's work welding in the 100 plus summers heat wasn’t worth it for the pay and physical or mental stress it put on him and us. In addition we just weren’t making any progress on our long term goals where we were. I wasn't working in science or with animals and probably wouldn't ever be if we stayed put.
So we made the needed connections and made the jump! I was going to be an assistant Biologist on a whale watching-research vessel and also start volunteering in the Drifters (jellyfish) Lab at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Matt got a job working for people he respects and where he is doing what he enjoys. Building huge machines by hand and helping feed america. We were both loving our jobs and enjoying being back in an area we grew up in.
Then like the rest of the world, we were hit with a curve ball. COVID-19 shut down both the whale watching-research tours and the aquarium. After one amazing week, I was suddenly left to spend my summer sitting in our new home doing……

Fast forward to now. I’ve had a lot of time to think and come up with ideas and a great family friend who has given me a part time job. I tried refurbishing furniture and selling it, I am pretty proud of the butterfly dresser I redid and sold for a good profit.  Although I don't have the patience to do it more than a few minutes at a time. But none of my ideas that I had could I really say I knew I wanted to do it.
So I sat down and with help from Chrissy Wright (look her up, She’s amazing), I started to make a list of things I am good at, qualified in, passionate about, experienced in, and things I enjoy. You know what I saw in each list? Animals, Nature, Science, and talking about it. Well and drinking tea but that's not relevant here.
So that's what I am doing with “Biology With Berta.” I am taking my experience, knowledge, and passion for animals and our planet and I am talking about it! I hope with this new adventure I can teach kids and adults about our world and excite them on protecting it. Whether through my social media post, the tutoring or classes I am running, or even blog post which I guess is a thing now!
Thank you for sticking with me to the end of this brainstorm on what exactly is Biology With Berta. I hope you stick along for more of the ride that I’m sure will be a wild one!
